Description

During this group interview, participants detailed their families' connections with Cuthbert, GA, a rural town where many Black families in Easton, PA have roots. Participants discussed what brought their families to the Lehigh Valley, including economic opportunities at Bethlehem Steel and in the textile industry. They recalled the contrasts in culture between Easton and Cuthbert, experiences of discrimination in both towns, and how they experienced Civil Rights Era struggles. They also discussed the impacts of "urban renewal" during the 1960s on Black neighborhoods in Easton.
