In clockwise order beginning in the upper left, the tapestry features a rotund robed figure with a mask that has the jaws of a crocodile and two long horns; a masked figure with six horns or hair spikes and a pouch around their neck; another figure with a mask that consists of two concentric circles, the inner of which is filled with dots, and the outer of which has radiating lines; a standing bird that has a white breast and black wings; a flying bird that has striped wings, and a polka-dotted breast; two four-legged creatures with pointy ears that seem to be held on leashes by a small human; two small fish.

In the center, there are four squares in light, cooler colors which are positioned corner-to-corner in the shape of the cross or “t.” The inside square matches the background of the painting, which is primarily done in red and black layers and splatters. There is a horizontal beige line above and below the cluster of squares. The two lines are different lengths, and neither is positioned in the center. A streak of blue-ish color curves around the top left of the piece.

Woven on jacquard looms at Philadelphia College of Textiles. The weaver was born 1947 Macungie, Pennsylvania. One piece, selvage to selvage, attached plastic threads. Abstract lines on slight diagonal repeat. Three dimentional plastic threads attached randomly. The colors are black, white, green, and yellow.

These hangings (1977.019.001 - 1977.019.008, a part of the "Steel Series") were conceived and executed between between 1935 and 1975, when Mildred Johnstone was a resident of the Lehigh Valley. As a wife of the Vice President of Bethlehem Steel, she made frequent tours of the mills, and was inspired to record her responses in these works. Rectangular, with design running diagonally. Design consists of an abstract cityscape intersected by highways bearing inscriptions. 3/4 inch velcro tape attached to back of top edge. Colors include yellowish white, white, red, and mulitcolors.
